Messages from the future

Bruno Silva, a twenty-nine-year old Brazilian man, was still working out how to understand his experience when he emailed me about six weeks following a dream about a car accident. “I woke up at 9 am from a dream that I was walking in a park at night with a friend, and after some time I decided to leave. When I went to get my car, it was completely ruined. The car’s rear was destroyed, as if something had hit it very hard. I couldn’t understand what happened because the car was parked on a large lawn and nobody but me was around.”

Bruno woke up immediately after that scene, with a strong feeling that something was off. He experienced multiple confirmations of this feeling throughout the day, and wasn’t sure if he was being paranoid or not. “After lunch, I went to my girlfriend’s house to spend the day with her. She lives in the nearby city, about 20 km from my place. When I told her about the dream she calmed me down, and we went to a birthday party. Later, we returned to her house and the uneasy feeling was back.” He decided to leave his girlfriend’s house. “It was around 1:35 am. A couple minutes after I left her house, I stopped the car and called my mom….My mom answered the call and I asked her if she was at home. She told me that she was already in bed and asked if I was ok, because I never call so late. I told her that I was going home, she blessed me, I hung up and went back to driving.”

A minute or two after his car hit the highway, Bruno saw a speeding car behind him with its high beams turned on. He moved to the right lane to allow the other car to pass him, but suddenly he felt an impact on the rear of his car, “…and a second later my car was spinning and flipping over. When I was spinning on the road, I had the strangest feeling of my life: I already knew this would happen. When my car stopped, I was on the central lawn of the road. I jumped out the car’s window and when I looked at the my car I had the strongest dejá vû ever: I saw exactly the same scene that I had seen in my dream: the car ruined, with the rear completely destroyed, a lot of grass, dirt, and fragments from the accident.”
